In category wise user management in Joomla (part 1) we have discussed how can we disable an edit button for the category user on unassociated category articles  . But the problem is when we login through frontend as an editor , we get complete list of newly added articles , even a user is category user we get the list of new articles from all categories to edit , hence whatever we discussed in category wise user management in Joomla (part 1) post , the results of the post can be applicable only if article is already published , But what about newly added articles? How can we display only associated category article list which are not published or which are in their first publishing cycle  .

I am using “com_camelcitycontent2” component , using the component I can create 2 links , 1st is to submit articles and 2nd is for view articles (to edit and to publish) . Once I login through front end I am getting the link “view articles” . You can manage your menu through administrator . Once I click the “view article” link . I am getting the list of all newly added article. But as we have make our users category wise in post category wise user management in Joomla (part 1) , we should get the list of only those articles whose categories are associated with us . But we are getting all articles to edit and publish .

I have added some lines of code to solve the problem .

1. Open the File \components\com_camelcitycontent2\models\all.php
2. Find out the function function _buildContentWhere()
3. Replace the function with following function

After replacing the function , you will get only those associated article list to edit or publish if the user is category user .

How Gulam Nabi given the statement like this , He didn’t prepared any plans and guidelines to fight with H1N1 . If we were prepared for H1N1 attack , If we were successfully stopped H1N1 at airport then It could save Rida’s life . But Health department was busy in watching  foreign news of deaths due to swine flu .

Health minister should apologize for his statement or should give resignation. Because he is failed to protect us  .

The kargil war is known as the war between two countries at the topmost height. India and Indian army had sacrifice many things in Kargil war hence we should remember the fantastic victory and the commandos who sacrifice their life to win this war.

In Kargil war , total 527 officers were died and 1363 were critically injured . The Pak army and terrorists had taken control of Indian army posts . To get it back  Indian commandos were fight from may to july 1999 and finally India becomes victorious.

The real victory started after getting control of “Tiger hills” . Tiger Hills is 16000 ft high from bottom of the sea. “18 grenadiers battalion” had climbed this tallest hill by climbing for more than 13 hours continuously fighting with POK terrorists and Pak Army. The leader for this battalion was leftnant karnal Prasad Mijar .

The world opinion about Pakistan had changed after Kargil war . The Pak known as attacking country after Kargil war . Other countries started criticizing Pakistan because Pak had crossed LOC. As usual Pakistan claimed that it was for Kashmir freedom and treated the terrorists as freedom fighters but all Pakistan plans were failed in Kargil war because of diplomatic pressure from other countries and power of Indian Army. The great thing was the well known allies of Pakistan i.e US and CHINA did not support Pakistan . The Pakistan were at the backfoot hence they planned nuclear strike to India , But due to the pressure from the world Pak didn’t get success.

7) Now go to admin , user manager ,  add new user , there in RHS , In parameter block , 2 parameters added

a) Category Based user

b) Associated Categories

If Category Based user field is set to yes then the enter the associated category ids in Associated Categories field which we want to associate for the user . and save it ,  If that newly created user log in from frontend then he will have access only for those associated categories.

If  Category Based user field is set to No then user have access to all the categories .

I am surprised that the ‘email to a friend’ functionality in joomla does not work properly ,  Its giving error EMAIL_NOT_SENT , I have done R&D on this issue but failed to correct this . I think its a known bug of Joomla 1.5.8

Hence I have found solution on this , I dont know whether its feasible to Joomla architecture , But it works without interfering with Joomla Framework .

Here are the steps

1) Create new file in Joomla root , Name it as customMail.php , Insert following code in that file.

Lets see , How can we add parameter to Joomla .

1. Open article.xml file , which is in a folder\administrator\components\com_content\models
2. Add new param , it can be textinput , textarea , checkbox etc . You need to start tag with string “param”  e.g <param name=”newparam” type=”text” size=”40″ default=”" label=”New Param ” description=”Description of new param added” />
3. Now If you open Joomla admin >> create new article , At the right hand side , In advanced parameter block , the added parameter interface will be shown , Addthe new param at last index of advanced parameter block .
4. The added parameter is added in database , in  _content table ,  All adavanced paramenters are added in table _content >> attribs field , The added params are “\n” separated , You can use php explode function to access any one of them.
5. Once you added new param in article.xml , All save, update , delete , select operations will be automatically done .

One application of this would be to track information about file downloads. Here we’re going to track the number of downloads and when the last download occurred. We’re going to store the information in a MySQL database. Below is the structure of the table.

The fileid is just an auto incrementing number used to keep track of the database. Filename will be the field we search with. Downloads and lastdownload are the fields used for keeping statistics.

Insert the following code after the if (isset($_REQUEST["file"])) { statement. This code will connect to the MySQL database and update the file stats. PHP has a strong built in function library for MySQL.

The date function is used to set the current date and time. Here it will be displayed in the YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS which is the format of the MySQL datetime format.

In this segment we connected to the MySQL database and updated the download statistics. First mysql_connect connected to the database passing the connection parameters in the order of host, login, and password. Then we selected which MySQL database we wanted to use with the mysql_select_db statement. Once we have the connection completed we check to see if the table holds a record for the file. The first mysql_query searches the database for a record with the filename of the file being downloaded. Mysql_num_rows determines the number of results returned from the query. Here we preceded the mysql_num_rows with a @ to prevent it from returning errors if the query results were empty.

If there was a result from the query $fileexist will be greater than 0 so we update the database. To do this we use a MySQL update query. If there wasn’t a result returned an insert query will be used instead of an update.

Want to prevent people from linking to your downloads? This script will force a page to be loaded before the download starts. HTML header statements are used to trigger the download of the file. PHP is used to push the file to the browser.
Principles

HTML headers must be sent before any output is sent to the browser. PHP uses the header function to pass raw HTML headers. For this example we’re going to get the filename from the URL www.yourdomain.com/download.php?file=download.zip.

We started with setting the directory where the files to be downloaded are located in $dir. Be sure not to use \ in $dir. Then we checked to make sure a filename was specified in the request. If a file was specified then we set $file to the path to the file and the filename. Now that the prep work is done its time to send the file to the browser.

The first header statement tells the browser to expect a download. The next two header statements tell the browser the format of the data and the size of the file respectively. The last header statement tells the browser the name of the file. Finally the readfile statement sends the file to the browser.

On the next page we’ll start showing some examples on how to use this.
MySQL Download Tracking
